Watching the sun set over the Flint Hills as she goes on a hike with her Bernese Mountain dogs — that’s one of Leslie Alford’s favorite things.
When she and her husband, Jim, were posted at Fort Riley and trying to decide where to retire after serving in the military, they kept thinking about Manhattan.
“The people here have made us feel so much at home,” she says. “We really liked the community, the area, the people. We thought, ‘Why are we talking about going somewhere else? Look what we have here!’”
As owners, real estate brokers and Realtors at RE/MAX Destiny Real Estate, Leslie and Jim are excited to help others find their perfect homes. They understand it’s about more than finding a great property; it’s about working with someone you can trust.
And since she PCS’d to at least 20 different duty stations during her Army career, Leslie intimately knows the ins and outs of finding a great home when you’re a military family.
After serving for 24 years as a logistician specializing in munitions and explosives and as the Command Inspector General for both the 1st Armored and 1st Infantry Division, Leslie retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. She has undergraduate degrees in computer information systems and business management, and a graduate degree in international relations.
Leslie is a graduate of the Leadership Kansas (2009) and Leadership Manhattan (2013) programs, is active with CASA, helping abused and neglected children, and has a strong history of serving with military and community organizations.
Leslie wanted to be independent, continue to help Soldiers, and stay involved in the community. Real estate was a natural fit for her experience and passion.
Her favorite part of the job is helping clients navigate uncharted territory. From explaining the process so clients know what to expect, to anticipating issues before they arise, Leslie gives every client valuable insight and expertise, and helps them find great homes.
From military families trying to decide whether to rent or buy while at Fort Riley, to Kansas State University faculty looking for the perfect spot to put down roots, to first time buyers, downsizing sellers, and students looking for dorm alternatives, her clients value her ability to offer sound advice for their particular situation.
“Every client is unique. Every deal is different,” she says. “It’s a new and interesting day every day.”
